A granite-laden truck, on Sunday, May 28, crushed a yet-to-be-identified cart pusher to death in the Dopumu area of Lagos State.

The spokesperson for Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, who confirmed the incident via a statement, disclosed that the truck driver was on top speed when it fell on its side.

He noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the truck lost control while overtaking another trailer before the container fell off the road and trapped the victim.

The LASTMA spokesperson said the driver of the truck ran away, adding that the officials of the agency retrieved a photocopy of his (driver) licence at the scene of the accident.

Taofiq stated that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU) had evacuated the fallen truck off the road, while the corpse had been handed over to members of the Hausa community in the Dopemu area.

He said the LASTMA General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, commiserated with the family of the deceased, urging truck drivers and other motorists to always adhere strictly to safety standards while driving on highways.
