U.S. city declares July 7 Davido Day

The city of Houston in the United States has declared July 7 as ‘Davido Day’ in honour of popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, fondly called Davido.

The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, made the declaration in a statement on Friday, July 7, 2023.

He said: “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.”

This followed the singer’s Timeless concert at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on Friday.

Davido shared a copy of the statement via his Instastory.

It would be recalled that popular Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, well known as Wizkid, was given similar honour in 2019 after he made history as the first African artiste to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.

The governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, declared October 6 as Wizkid Day in the city.
