U.S. varsity releases Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku

The Chicago State University (CSU) in the United States has released the academic records of President Bola Tinubu to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar.

The CSU released Tinubu’s credentials to Atiku, a former Vice President, on Monday, October 2, 2023, in compliance with the order of a United States District Court in Northern District of Illinois.

The Star had reported that the court ordered CSU to release the academic records of President Tinubu to Atiku by Monday.

In the CSU documents, which went viral on Monday night, the university stated: “A true and correct copy of any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr Tinubu.

“CSU does not, in the ordinary course, keep copies of student diplomas, and after the diligent search cannot locate a copy of the original diploma it prepared for Mr Tinubu in 1979, hence, has no documents responsive to this request.”

Atiku had approached the court seeking to compel the university to release Tinubu’s records on the grounds that the credentials would strengthen his suit challenging the president’s electoral victory.

Though Tinubu’s credentials show that he graduated from CSU in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting and management, Atiku stated that the president’s academic records from primary school to university were questionable.

However, the presiding judge, Nancy Maldonado, declared that CSU raised no objection to Judge Jeffery Gilbert’s decision that the academic records be made public.

Maldonado also overruled Tinubu’s objections to the application filed by Atiku seeking the release of his credentials.

The PDP presidential standard-bearer had since approached the Supreme Court to nullify the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court which upheld the victory of Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
