Former President Goodluck Jonathan has opened up on his involvement in an auto accident on Wednesday in Abuja.
The accident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, claimed the lives of two of Jonathan’s aides.
Jonathan said the accident occurred within the vicinity of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while he was on his way out of the airport.
The former president said two policemen attached to him died in the accident.
According to him, two other officers sustained injuries and they have been moved to the hospital.
Jonathan expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate tragic death of two police officers attached to him in the road crash.
The former President, who described the incident as painful and heart-rending, stated that the sudden death of the two security details has thrown him into deep mourning.
Dr. Jonathan noted with sadness that the deceased, Inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma, were fine officers who were dedicated to their duties and service to the nation.
“Two other officers sustained injuries in the accident which involved a car conveying the security men. They were rushed to a hospital in Abuja where they are responding to treatment.
“The office of the former President has offered condolences to the families of the bereaved and the Police High Command,” Ikechukwu Eze, Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the former President, said in a statement made available to The Star.
Dr. Jonathan prayed God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and bless their families and the nation with the fortitude to bear the loss.

One of Jonathan’s aides said the former president was fine and okay.
He disclosed that the accident occurred when Jonathan was on his way from the airport to his residence in Abuja.
The aide said the former President is now at home.
Speaking on the incident via his Twitter handle, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said: “This story comes across with a rude shock. We thank God for sparing the life of President @GEJonathan. But it is heart wrenching that he lost two of his aides to the auto accident.
“I console the immediate families of the deceased as well as President Jonathan. May the souls of the departed Rest In Peace.”
