Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, fondly called Davido, says Grammy Award winner, Damini Ogulu, well known as Burna Boy, is one of the “new cats” of Afrobeats.
Davido said he and his colleague, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, were the first young Nigerian Afrobeats singers to hit stardom, stressing that they were pioneers in promoting the music genre.
The singer said this in an interview which went viral on social media on Thursday, June 8.

The ‘Unavailable’ crooner said: “Everybody knows now. I was one of the first; me and Wizkid were one of the first young artists to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, you know a lot of new cats coming, killing it, Asake who was on my album.
“So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands.”
