VIDEO: Couple arrested with 3,533kgs cannabis in Ogun

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have raided a warehouse at Ogere in Ikene Local Government Area of Ogun State and seized 273 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 3,533 kilograms (3.533tons) from a couple, Jesutofunmi Solomon.

The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this via a statement made available to The Star on Sunday.

Babafemi noted that the arrest on Friday came on the heels of the seizure of 176kgs of cannabis at Ogere trailer park on Wednesday and the destruction of 15 hectares of cannabis plantation in Gbamgbam area of the state.

He said the operatives of the anti-drug agency also raided a cannabis plantation at Obada sawmill, Owena Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State and destroyed 1.2hectares, recovered 2,823kgs of processed cannabis, and arrested 13 suspects last Sunday.

He added that the NDLEA operatives seized 78kgs of cannabis from a dealer, Beauty Godwin, at Ofosu along the Benin-Ore expressway, and another 264kgs from Abdul Rasheed Mohammed and Abdul Rasheed Haruna at Sanusi camp 2 in Owo, Ondo State.

Babafemi stated that the anti-narcotics officers arrested one Damion Onuoha during a raid at Elele Alimini community in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State and recovered 1.6kgs of Methamphetamine and monetary exhibit amounting to N650,700 from the suspect.

The NDLEA spokesperson said a joint operation with the military at Habour road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital also led to the arrest of one Sandra David and the seizure of different quantities of cocaine and heroin as well as N2 million cash exhibit from her home.

He noted that the operatives of the anti-drug agency destroyed 10 clusters of cannabis sativa farms measuring 14 hectares at Igwalor forest in Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo State, adding that five bags of processed cannabis weighing 47.7kgs were recovered.

Babafemi stated that a raid at Obadan village, in the same LGA also led to the recovery 11 bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing 399kgs and 34 bags of processed substance weighing 431kgs, bringing the total weight to 830kgs, noting that two suspects, Enododia Sunday and Osayaba Paul, were arrested at the scene.

While commending the anti-narcotics officers for the successful operations in the past week, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), urged them and their counterparts across the country to intensify the heat on drug barons and cartels.
