The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has met with the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in the United Kingdom (UK).
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this via a post on his X account on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Olayinka stated that Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, hosted the suspended lawmakers in the UK on Monday, April 7.
The minister’s spokesman wrote: “Yesterday, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, hosted Rivers State House of Assembly members who are in the United Kingdom for Legislative Capacity Building, to a dinner.
Wike: I didn’t collapse, I’ll write condolence letters of those wishing me dead
“Wike left Nigeria on Sunday night after visiting his political friends and associates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”
A statement issued last week by Martins Wachukwu, the Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, said the UK tour aims to enhance lawmakers’ legislative skills.
Wachukwu said the five-day tour began in Central London, adding that lawmakers viewed it as a chance for peer review and deeper parliamentary insight.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu, on March 18, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, following the prolonged political crisis in the state.
The declaration saw the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
