Portuguese manager, Jose Paseiro, has said that he did not agree to coach Super Eagles because there was disagreement between him and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before he was announced.
NFF had announced the appointment of Peseiro as Super Eagles coach following the sacking of Gernot Rohr.
It added that the Portuguese tactician would take charge of the Super Eagles after the just-concluded 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
However, Peseiro, in a post on his Instagram page, said he rejected the Nigeria national team’s job because of “disagreement regarding contrarian clauses and financial matters”.

The former FC Porto manager wrote: “After several weeks of negotiations, during which there was news from the Nigerian Football Federation, that I would be the coach of their team, from the end of AFCON 2021, a fact that I never confirmed, and these did not materialize due to disagreement regarding contrarian clauses and financial matters.”
Meanwhile, the NFF had on February 7, 2022, announced that it has retained Eguavoen as Interim Technical Adviser.
It added that former Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Amuneke, was appointed as a Chief Coach and an immediate assistant to Eguavoen.
The NFF further noted Salisu Yussuf, Joseph Yobo, and Alloy Agu would be among the personnel that would lead the Super Eagles to qualify us for the World Cup in Qatar.
