Why we detained Comedian Cute Abiola – Nigerian Navy

The whereabouts of popular comedian, Abdulgafar Ahmed Oluwatoyin, known as Cute Abiola, has been put to rest.

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed that the comedian is in its custody.

Fellow comedian, Mr Macaroni, had raised the alarm that Cute Abiola was missing since November 15.

But the Navy on Wednesday confirmed that it detains Cute Abiola for breaching the social media policy of the Armed Forces.

The comedian is a naval officer.

In a statement by spokesman of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Suleman Dahun, stated that the comedian’s detention was on the orders of the Nigerian Navy Headquarters.

The statement read: “The attention of the Nigerian Navy has been drawn to an online newstory which claims that a naval officer, OSCOMP Abdulgafar AA, who incidentally is a popular comedian known as Cute Abiola, has gone missing.

“The Nigerian Navy wishes to categorically debunk this false news report currently trending online.

“OSCOMP Abdulgafar is currently under custody in his unit for breaching the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders. The Nigerian Navy wishes to avail itself this incident to remind its personnel to comply with the provisions of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy in their usage of social media platforms.

“The Policy, amongst others, is emplaced to protect their personal safety and security as well as the information integrity of the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
