Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said no one can convince him to stop his advocacy for internal democracy in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike said he will never accept northerners to dominate the leadership of the main opposition party.

The governor said this on Wednesday night when he hosted PDP candidates and local government party chairmen from Cross River State at his residence in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Wike, and his allies, Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, have since been calling for the removal of PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

The governor and his loyalists said Ayu should step down for a southerner, saying it remains a condition to campaign for Atiku ahead of the 2023 general election.

Speaking on Wednesday, Governor Wike further vowed not to dump the PDP, urging the party’s candidates in Rivers State to be deliberate about winning the elections.

He, however, donated 25 buses to support the candidates’ campaigns ahead of the next year’s general election.
