Woman attempts to kill baby with Sniper in Lagos

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a woman for attempting to kill her sick child with Sniper, a poisonous insecticide, in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

Hundeyin disclosed that the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba, Lagos State, reported the incident to the police on Friday, March 8.

He said the chief security officer at the hospital reported to the police that the woman brought her one-year-and-seven months’ old daughter to the hospital for treatment.

The police spokesman added that the woman confessed to a doctor at the hospital that she gave the child Sniper to drink last Sunday when her convulsion was not abating.

Hundeyin said: “The mother said she gave the liquid to her child so she could rest from her excessive convulsions.

“Detectives were immediately dispatched to the hospital where they met the baby receiving treatment.

“The mother has been taken in for investigation after the child had received treatment.”
