Yahoo boy posing as American prostitute jailed in Abuja

A High Court sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced one Emmanuel Adeyi to community service for three months over an offence bordering on internet fraud.

The one count charge preferred against Adeyi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2021 in Abuja when he pretended to be a white woman named Sally, a prostitute, who resides in the United States of America through his Reddit application, and under the assumed character obtained the sum of $600 from his victims and thereby committed the offence of cheating by personation.

The EFCC stated that the offence is contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Law (Cap. 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria) and punishable under Section 324 of the same Law.

Adeyi, however, pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him.

The presiding judge, Justice I. Mohammed, later convicted and sentenced Adeyi to community service for three months, in addition to a fine of N30,000.

Justice Mohammed also ordered that Adeyi’s iPhone 12 Pro Max be forfeited to the Federal Government.
