‘Yahoo boys’ arrested for killing man for money ritual in Ogun

The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called ‘Yahoo boys’, for allegedly killing a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Azeez, for a money ritual in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this via a statement issued on Sunday.

Oyeyemi stated that the suspects, Friday Abinya Odeh, aged 21, and 20-year-old Poso Idowu, were arrested on Thursday, September 22, in the Owode Egba area of Ogun State.

He disclosed that the suspected internet fraudsters abducted the victim, butchered him, and cut his body parts into pieces.

The police spokesman, who noted that the suspects were arrested following a report lodged at Owode Egba divisional headquarters on Thursday, June 9, said the relations of the victim reported to the police that the victim left his home at Kobape area on Thursday, June 8 and did not return since then.

“Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.

“In compliance with the commissioner’s directive, the team, led by SP Taiwo Opadiran, embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh on Thursday, September 22, where the Sim card of the victim was recovered.

“His (Odeh) arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Poso Idowu.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on the 8th of June 2022 at Kobape area, at about 7:30 pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him, and cut him into pieces.

“They confessed further that, it was one herbalist, simply identified as Arab money who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual for them.

“All efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive as the suspects claimed to have disposed it,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
