A renowned Islamic Scholar and the Chief Imam of Muslim Foundation Jumuat Mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State, Dr Tukur Sani Jangebe, has resigned from his position.
The Chief Imam made this known in a letter sent to the mosque’s management committee and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, on Friday.
Jangebe said his decision to resign from his position as the Chief Imam was to ensure peace and security of the mosque and its community prevail.

He also assured his support and contribution to the development and success of the mosque and Islamic religion in the state and the country at large.
Jangebe, in an interview with newsmen, however, disclosed that his resignation was connected to a video clip in which he was seen praying for the Minister of State for Defence and immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, which he did similar prayers to the incumbent Governor Dauda Lawal when he was campaigning for the position.
He said the video clip had gone viral on social media and generated mixed reactions among political elites and religious communities in the state.
Jangebe served as the Commissioner for Religious Affairs for three terms in Zamfara State.
